Van Panther is an experimental shoegaze and post-punk band based in Limerick City, Ireland. The group fuses the intricate elements of electronica with pop-oriented sensibilities, and the jarring headstrong nature of post-punk with the nostalgic groove of indie-rock (albeit with lots of other bits thrown in). The concoction makes for a visceral live experience that swoons and screams, keeping everybody on their toes.
Van Panther was formed in 2015; the project has since heralded three commercially available EP's: Café van Hemel (2016), Hark! (2017). and Overcast (2019). During the Covid-19 pandemic, the band released two standalone singles: To Live & Die (2020) and Home (2020).
The three EP's were very positively received, with Jim Carroll of The Irish Times noting the "lo-fi alt and indie pushes and scratches" on Café van Hemel, Nialler9 shouting out the unique genre-hopping nature of Hark!, and the BBC praising the writing on Overcast, with particular praise given to the song 'No Seasons' (which was also chosen for feature by Spotify on their editorial playlist A Breath of Fresh Éire).
Following the release of To Live & Die and Home, Hot Press stated that "Van Panther's unique fusion of experimental pop, post-punk and nostalgia-heavy indie-rock has marked them as one of the most compelling alternative acts in the country."
Van Panther have supported noise-rock giants Holy Fuck on their lrish tour dates in Cork (Cyprus Avenue) & Limerick (Dolan's Warehouse), and have played alongside Irish acts such as The Murder Capital, CHERYM, Fox Jaw and many more.
