Tim O’Riordan is a musician from rural County Cork, specifically from the village of Aherla, located halfway between Cork city and Macroom. He has been active as an entertainer with the band Natural Gas since 1986. O’Riordan is well known in Cork and Kerry for gigging regularly. He gained notable recognition with his band Natural Gas for the song “The Langer,” which was the first Irish number one by a Cork act in over 30 years. The song “The Langer,” released in 2004, is a comedic folk ballad capturing Cork’s distinctive local wit and lingo. It gained wide popularity and even inspired versions in places like Plymouth, England, and Germany. O’Riordan’s music blends satirical and heartfelt storytelling, and he is noted for both his comedic and reflective songwriting. Early influences include American songwriters like Bob Dylan and Neil Young, and his mentor was Don Murphy, a veteran of showbands in Cork. O’Riordan also sings original songs, including a Christmas song called “One Lonely Star”
