An exciting double header evening featuring recenly formed Dublin band Throwing Shapes and Cork’s improvising ensemble FIXITY.
THROWING SHAPES
Throwing Shapes is the debut collaboration from Méabh McKenna, Ross Chaney and Gareth Quinn Redmond. Led by the striking timbre of the Irish wire strung harp the trio weaves intricate instrumental tapestries with ambitious electronic synthesis and arrangements. The result is an immersive soundscape that feels rooted yet experiential.
The release of their debut single, Chosen Talk, on June 27th coincides with the announcement of the band’s debut album, releasing September 5th on Swiss label WRWTFWW Records. The album will be available as a limited-edition vinyl, with 300 copies pressed. Pre-orders will go live via the label’s Bandcamp on the day of the single’s release.
FIXITY is a project formed by multi-instrumentalist and composer Dan Walsh in 2015. The project is based around the impossibility of repeated moments and manifests in solo and ensemble settings with collaborators from throughout Ireland and beyond.
To date FIXITY has presented 11 individual releases, also featuring a series of solo-produced and numbered mini-albums.
Since the release of FIXITY8 in 2024 Dan has been performing with a growing pool of collaborators including The Bonk, Junior Brother, Naive Ted and Elaine Howley, as well as embarking on a solo european tour in February 2023 spanning 5 countries.
The next phase of explorations begins this year with new large-ensemble music on the way.
